Uptown World - Sándor Kenyeres, on the Antara Palace Wellness and Destination Spa Polis Cyprus

Sándor Kenyeres, founder and president of Antara Palace, describes his inspiration for investing in this upscale project as being, simply and singularly, Cyprus.

Kenyeres is convinced that, as an island of unrivalled natural beauty, Cyprus can be transformed into an uptown world for white-collar travellers and High Net Worth Individuals seeking refuge and relaxation.

And with Antara serving as the epicentre of this activity, success is the only option.
What was your inspiration for pursuing this luxury project in Cyprus?

Cyprus is blessed with the highest number of sunny days in Europe – the perfect climate – and is easily reachable from most European countries, as well as from the Middle East, yet it is still somewhat secluded.

The acknowledgement that you are on an island gives you the impression of an escape from your everyday life: an escape from your bad habits, stressful days and poor food choices.

You can hardly find a better place if you are searching for untouched nature and unadulterated food. So the island’s resources provide the perfect background for relaxation and recuperation.

And why Polis Chrysochous in particular? What tourism potential do you envisage for this area?

The Polis region is the most ideal area in Cyprus for a relaxing getaway. It is the most unspoilt region on the island with crystal clear water, yet to be discovered by most of the tourists.
Fine Dinning
The Polis area has the potential to become a high-end tourist destination: these travellers seek privacy and exclusivity in a remote location to de-stress and spend time with their loved ones.

Tell me a little bit about your clientele. What is your proportion of local to international guests? Indeed, what are your key source markets?
Lobby area
Our main target markets are Europe, Russia and the Middle East. However, since our product is quite unique, we expect to generate interest from the US and even in the Chinese markets.

As for our target clientele, due to our unique spa and retreat concept, we expect to attract female clients who would like to relax and rejuvenate, perhaps before an important event such as a wedding or without any reason at all.

We also anticipate attracting couples and families who would prefer to do something beneficial for their health while on holiday.

Described as a ‘Wellness and Destination Spa’, what makes Antara unique compared with other properties in the market?

We are very proud of our destination spa: we offer more than 50 spa treatments and several wellness retreat programmes that aim at helping guests make positive lifestyle changes. Therefore, our wellness services can easily be the main reason for a stay at Antara Palace.

Guests can choose from weight loss programmes, detoxification, fertility balance, corporate burnout, blood sugar balance, blood pressure balance, hormonal balance and more, each of which is tailored to the individual needs of each guest.

Therefore, we offer more than just a few pampering treatments: we would like to have a great, positive impact on the health status of our guests.

What is your long-term strategy for Antara in Cyprus, and how will you ensure it comes to fruition?

Antara is the first boutique hotel and destination spa on the island targeting VVIP guests (very, very important persons), and we would like to become the landmark of Cyprus.

Our marketing and PR strategy supports this and we aim at providing excellent service all the time.

How far are you involved with local industry stakeholders, both private and public, in the promotion of your product and Cyprus overall?

We have some local partners to promote Antara and Cyprus and I feel it would be very important to involve more local industry stakeholders to develop a more effective approach for the promotion of Cyprus abroad.

Indeed, do you feel that a successful private-public partnership is central to a country’s developing tourism model? And, if so, what would you like to see happen in Cyprus?

First of all, I feel it would be really important for Cyprus to invest more in the promotion of the country and its tourism, since, except in Europe, it is not a well-known destination.

There isn’t really any well-developed approach to the country’s branding and promotion, and, therefore, there isn’t any consistent and effective message to show what Cyprus is, how it is different from other Mediterranean destinations and why tourists should come here.

A carefully-developed country promotional and marketing plan would greatly benefit the tourism of the island.

Do you have any future projects in the pipeline for Cyprus?

Yes, I do. Antara is a landmark project, and, without revealing too much, I can tell you that I have significant plans to develop several other luxury projects that will bring something new to the Cypriot upscale tourism segment.
