What is legal but not logical, logical but not legal, and neither logical nor legal?

Image
A  young Law student, having failed his Law exam, goes up to his crusty old professor, who is renowned for his razor-sharp legal mind. Student: "Sir, do you really understand everything about this subject?" Professor: Actually, I probably do. Otherwise I wouldn't be a professor, would I?" Student: "OK. So I’d like to ask you a question. If you can give me the correct answer, I will accept my marks as it is. If you can't give me the correct answer, however, you'll have to give me an "A". Professor: "Hmmmm, alright. So what’s the question?"

The Federation of European Motorcyclists' Associations

Image
Great confusion about the 3rd Driving Licence Directive The transposition of the 3rd Driving Licence Directive reveals big problems with the interpretation of its content by EU member states. While Spanish motorcycle licences issued since 2009 are not valid in other countries, France even aims at a post-validation scheme. Some Member States of the European Union will implement both testing and training instead of testing or training and many other details remain unclear.

Mastercard, Absolutely Priceless ..... CANCEL YOUR CREDIT CARD BEFORE YOU DIE ....... JUST PRICELESS Reported in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle Recently: Be sure and cancel your credit cards before you die! This is so priceless. And so easy to see happening - customer service, being what it is today! A lady died this last September, and MBNA bank billed her in October and November for their annual service charges on her credit card, and then in December added late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance that had been £0.00, now is somewhere around - £60.00. A family member rang MBNA: Family Member: 'I am calling to tell you that my grandmother died in September.' MBNA: 'But the account was never closed and so the late fees and charges still apply.' Family Member: 'Maybe, you should turn it over to your collections section.' MBNA: ‘Since it is two months over due, it already has been.'

Five countries that deceived Russian investors, blinded by the dreams of a house abroad

Image
Some Russians believe that buying real estate abroad is better investment than purchasing it in Russia. In the hope of a perfect deal, the Russians are looking for houses outsides of their homeland. Blinded by the dreams of a house in Bulgaria, Spain and Egypt, Russians often forget that swindlers live in foreign countries as well. As discovered by consultants of portalaIndriksons.ru  , the most deceptive countries in terms of real estate sales to Russian citizens are Bulgaria, Egypt, Spain, Dubai and Italy. The consultants ranked the countries whose real estate agents frequently deceived the Russians in recent years. First place unquestionably went to sunny Bulgaria, revered by Russian tourists who frequented the neighboring country in the years of the Soviet Union. In the socialist past of Russia, few people had the opportunity to visit foreign countries, but many wanted to vacation on a beach, and so the main resort in Bulgaria was formed. Soviet citizens even had a saying

Only Nine Countries Have An Official Twitter Account

Image
According to a recent study, only nine countries have their own Twitter account, while only three of these are officially verified by Twitter. This study from communications firm Burson-Marsteller, entitled “Twiplomacy”, takes a look at the Twitter habits of 193 UN member states – and finds that most are really not all that Twitter-savvy at all. The @GreatBritain, @Israel and @SouthAfrica Twitter accounts are all verified by Twitter, earning that little blue check mark in their profile.

Israelis possibly targeted by bomb-makers in Cyprus

Image
Cypriot authorities discovered a small amount of explosives that may have been intended for use against Israeli targets. A Cypriot tabloid, Alithia , reported on Thursday that agents of Cypriot security services had discovered 100 grams of explosives at the port in Limassol, which were intended to target cruise ships carrying Israelis. The explosives, according to the report, came in the form of a pink powder. Speaking on condition of anonymity, an expert on terrorism with ties to the Cypriot government told JTA that “unless there are other packages,” the small amount found could suggest the charge was meant to target one person in a car bomb or other small explosives devices.

Cyprus' Divided Capital A Last Vestige Of War, by npr

Image
At the Ledra Palace checkpoint in Nicosia, Cypriots must show a passport to cross the border between the Turkish North and the Greek South. There is one corner of the European Union where a kind of war still rages. Nicosia, on the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus, is the last divided capital city in Europe. In 1974, Turkey invaded Cyprus, taking over the northern part of the island — including half of the capital. History teacher Maria Chrysanthou says she's blunt with students who ask her if the two sides of Cyprus — one Greek-speaking and Christian, the other Turkish-speaking and Muslim — will ever be united.

ECONOMIST: Scotland ponders whether independence and separation are the same thing

Image
SHOULD Scotland be an independent country or not? In negotiations concluded on October 15th, David Cameron secured the single in-or-out question that he wanted. But the choice facing Scottish voters in 2014, and the campaigns to influence them, will not be nearly as simple as the words on the ballot suggest.  Scotland’s independence referendum Och aye the No John Curtice, a psephologist at Strathclyde University, says that Scots divide into three roughly equally-sized camps. The first lot want independence. The second prefer the status quo. A final group, accounting for about 30% of those polled, would like to stay in the union but also want more powers for Scotland. In effect, they are the swing voters. With two years to go until the referendum, the campaigns are already converging on them.

The Queen of Great Britain is dead...

Image
The Royal portraiture of Queen Elisabeth of Great Britain. The real subject of a royal portrait is never the monarch WHEN Queen Elizabeth assumed the throne 60 years ago, cloaked in heavy brocade and crusted with jewels, she became the dutiful, fresh-faced figurehead of an imperial power in decline. In the wobbly post-war world, her subjects were greedy for symbols of Britain's vitality. Cecil Beaton photographed the 27-year-old on the day of her coronation, cooing that she was “cool, smiling, sovereign of the situation”. It is the fate of a monarch—particularly one of diminished powers, heading a downsized empire in an age of increasing media scrutiny—to become a screen onto which others project their views.
