ASTON VILLA vs MANCHESTER UNITED = 2-3

Image
Sir Alex Ferguson on Chicharito: "If you score a hat-trick you pick yourself & he will play next week." - "Javier Hernandez is fantastic in the penalty box & it's got us three goals today." - "We really need to be better defensively. But I admire the tenacity of the team." - "It's a magnificent result, it was a magnificent game. They (AstonVillaFC) ran their socks off but we never gave in. You cannot blame Aston Villa for feeling hard done by in the wake of their 3-2 home defeat to Manchester United. Paul Lambert's side had been the better side by a shade for much of the game and were deservedly up two goals after 60 minutes. But the Red Devils' furious comeback in the final third could not have been achieved without super-sub Javier Hernandez, who scored a sensational (if slightly dubious) hat-trick to turn a potential slip-up into yet another clinical win.

A War on the Pitch…Football Hasn’t Seen a Game Quite Like This by Tom Head

Image
To start with, I would like to thank everyone who took an interest in my piece last week; to get 1,000+ views was most unexpected, and further proves to me what a great bunch of madmen the APOEL lot really are! So thank you for that. However, I believe I could be forgiven for not focusing on APOEL this week. Cypriot football awaits a watershed moment, as we begrudgingly ‘welcome’ a Turkish team onto the island for the first time in six years. They could not be less welcome if they announced Robert Mugabe in their starting XI. AEL Limassol take on Fenerbache, and I can assure you, forget everything you ever thought you knew about footballing rivalry… This game completely puts football in the shade. For those of you still bemused, here’s a quick history lesson I know you are dying to read:

TOM HEAD, From Nicosia With Love: How to Develop An Obsession With an Obscure European Club…

Image
Tom Head  describes his love affair with a team from the tiny island of Cyprus and how they played themselves into the history books against Europe’s giants. How many of you have lived to see a team you follow be immortalised into legend, right before your very eyes? To put it in terms we can all relate to, It’s like drinking pint after pint of disbelief and euphoria, followed by a few shots of vindication and heightened satisfaction, and waking up with a hangover of fist-clenching, unbridled joy. Though I’m still a madcap Nottingham Forest fan, I was born in 1991 and never got to see us play in one of those electrically atmospheric European glory nights – something I struggled to come to terms with when coming home from goalless draws away at Crewe, and cataclysmic play-off devastation at the hands of… Well, almost everyone. For me, following APOEL

SIR ALEX FERGUSON EYES IMPROVED ANFIELD SHOWING

Image
SIR ALEX EYES IMPROVED ANFIELD SHOWING Manchester United are looking to halt a poor recent record at Liverpool in Sunday's Barclays Premier League blockbuster.   Sir Alex Ferguson's men last won at Anfield in December 2007 and have lost four of the five subsequent meetings there in all competitions, including a 2-1 FA Cup defeat in January when Dirk Kuyt struck with two minutes left. Although United have enjoyed some success at Liverpool in the past, famously winning consecutive league games 3-1 in 1996/97 and 1997/98, it has generally been a tough fixture against a home side who have often gone into the game as underdogs. "The motivation leans on the side of Liverpool,

Usain Bolt is so fast, if he shoots for goal .........he will ...Save it.

Can you imagine UBolt in ManU Kit facing Barca and Mesy?  The battle of David Messi and Goliath Bold Yes WE love a Usain Bolt - He is the greatest sprinter of all times and has a fab personality. I think deep down he knows he will never play professional football - SAF knows that too. It's as he says...a dream. Being superstar in running, is different in Footbal. Bold is a Hero.

EXCITEMENT AS ROBIN VAN PERSIE ARRIVES AT MANCHESTER UNITED

Image
Both Robin van Persie and Sir Alex Ferguson are thrilled by the prospect of the Dutch striker pulling on the famous red shirt for Manchester United. Άλλαα του ρολοούθκια τους πελλούς μου ααα!!! At a press conference to officially unveil the star signing, the former Arsenal captain explained the motivation for his switch to Old Trafford despite interest from other clubs. "Manchester United breathes football," admitted van Persie. "Every aspect. For me, I made the decision quite soon. It was based on a lot of things and all these things went for United. When I have to make a hard decision, I always listen to the little boy inside me and what does he want? That little boy was screaming for Manchester United."

Michael Phelps is the greatest "Olympian" but in Swimming

Image
Who has been the greatest Olympic athlete since ancient Olympia's multi-sports festival was revived in Athens 116 years ago? The debate was reopened on Tuesday when Michael Phelps anchored the US men's quartet to a sweeping victory in the 4x200 metres freestyle relay at the London Games. Rodion  Phelps is simply the greatest in swimming. That is a fact! However there is no such thing as the greatest Olympian. You can't win as many medals anywhere else and quantity must not be the factor here. Sports are versatile and incomparable and let each of them have own Greats! Chris C  How can anyone be described as 'Olympics Greatest Athlete' in only ONE SPORT ? He may well be the greats 'SWIMMER' ever but that can also depend on the opposition at the time. Nevertheless - yes he is 'ONE' of the Greatest ! MICHAEL PHELPS

Keep it going Lewis Hamilton! Its not Alonso's title!

Image
Well done Lewis Hamilton.. haters won't like the win,  fantastic drive, you did a brilliant job. A champion drive from a champion driver! If there was any doubt that Hamilton is as good a driver as they come in this current generation, then you saw a perfect illustration of this fact Sunday afternoon! I reckon only Teflonso could have driven with such a winning combination of speed; precision; foresight, and highly intelligent car conservation/tyre preservation.
